THE YEARS: 2001

Al-Qaeda Terrorists attack the United States using hijacked passenger aircraft to bring down the Twin Towers in New York and crashing an aircraft into the Pentagon in Arlington County, Virginia leaving nearly 3,000 people dead. the attacks become known simply as 911 due to the date of the attack September 11th. Due to the attacks a number of things happen, America Declares War on Terrorism and invades Afghanistan where the leader of al-Qaeda Osama bin Laden was believed to be hiding , Security increases for all aspects of life including Airline Security. Tony Blair is elected Prime Minister for a second term, Foot and Moouth Disease in found in the UK after 20 years, Wikipedia, Windows XP and the iPod launch in this year. Popular films included Ocean's Eleven, Jurassic Park 3 and Shrek.

The third outing for UYOA contenders was to Slinfold Park Golf Club in West Sussex. Measuring 6,424 yards from the white tees, the Sussex golf course could be summarised as a "thinking person's course" – where strategic shot placement takes preference over long drives. Well positioned bunkers and natural hollows need to be negotiated successfully to shoot a good score around this course.

Cant remember too much about this year to be honest, the main memory I have is Jim Browne asking me what hand a golf glove should go on - he obviously hadn't been playing much golf up to this point!

As before the day consisted of a 9 hole team Texas Scramble in the morning followed by an 18 hole individual Stableford tournament in the afternoon.
